The Ormesby Ensemble was founded by Robert Atchison, who together with other prominent musicians wanted to play chamber music scored for a larger ensembles in a combination of strings, winds and other instruments with the quality of musical rapport only regular groups can achieve.
Robert Atchison is a soloist, conductor and artistic director. He made his London debut in 1983 at the Queen Elizabeth Hall playing the Beethoven concerto and in 1984 at the Barbican with Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. He joined the Philharmonia Orchestra in 1984 and remained there until 1990. From 1991 to 1997 he was a member of all three orchestras of the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, and was co-principal to Iona Brown. In 1993 he was appointed Director of the Spanish Chamber Orchestra, appearing frequently as soloist. Since then he has had a busy chamber and solo career.
Grammy nominated Mr. Atchison has performed with and conducted leading orchestras around the world, as well as recording and touring with the critically acclaimed London Piano Trio. In 2011, he shared the stage with LIAF curator Jyotsna Srikanth at the International Arts Festival in Capri, Italy.
The trio performing at LIAF will be Robert Atchison (violin, Jacqueline Dennett (violin), and Naomi Holt (viola). They will be playing Aloys Schmitt: Kleine Suite, George Templeton Strong: String Trio, and Antonin Dvorak: Terzetto, Op.74.
