This uplifting Mexican combo takes a healthy dose of traditional folk music, funks it up into Nortec dance vibes, blends in big Balkan beats, adds lashings of funky grooves and Latin rock to form delicious tropical rhythms that are guaranteed to get your feet stomping and your hips shaking.
Formed in 2008 in Mexico City’s Del V neighbourhood by DJ Sultán, LISB has grown organically with band members steadily gravitating towards it following local jamming sessions. It now comprises of guitarists Watty and Zabad Castro, percussionists Chukupaka and Mario Salas, clarinet players Enrique Pérez and Pablo Ramírez, and visual artist Mi+Mi., joined the band. They regularly pack out the Mexican capital’s leading venues and are a popular on the Latin festival circuit.
Their 2011 debut album ‘La Internacional Sonora Balkanera’ (LOV/RECS), produced by former Nortec Collective founding member Roberto Mendoza (a.k.a. Panoptica), attracted attention from further afield including an invite to appear at Glastonbury 2011. Earlier this year, the band won the 2012 Indie-O Music Award for Best Jazz/Funk/Fusion Album.
Headlining the final day of LIAF 2012, LISB guarantees a multi-cultural treat for all the senses.
